AI & your choices
Help for your thinking. Room for your judgment.
AI can suggest a direction. You decide whether it's worth taking.
What AI can help with
Assist can help untangle a thought, suggest connections, and answer questions using the note excerpts you choose. AI suggestions are kept separate from your original words — you review them before saving a suggestion.
When content leaves your device
Local capture, search, and the Brain visualization do not require an AI request or uploading your library. In Assist, review the sharing preview and confirm consent for that request. Only then are the selected excerpts, source identifiers, question, and request mode sent through Cogni’s Supabase backend to OpenAI to generate a response. Signing in or buying Pro does not automatically upload or sync your note library.
The backend records account-linked AI usage and generated responses to apply usage limits and handle repeated requests. It also supports explicitly submitted cloud-indexing requests, which can store note text, chunks, and embeddings. That is separate from Assist’s selected-note workflow: the current iPhone interface does not automatically index your library or offer cloud-index-management controls. OpenAI may retain request data for safety monitoring. See the Privacy Policy for the distinction between local data, Cogni service records, and provider retention.
Sources matter
An answer that sounds confident can still be wrong. Open the source note, check anything important, and keep your own judgment. Cogni is not a medical service, a diagnostic tool, or a replacement for professional advice.
The Brain is a metaphor
Actions, Ideas, Notes, and Links have stable visual neighborhoods in Brain. These locations are organizational choices, not a map of where a thought exists in your biological brain. The illustration does not measure your cognition or emotions.
Your choices
Leave sharing consent off or do not send the request if you do not want to use AI. Consent is per request; it does not switch on background library sharing. Changing your mind or cancelling after sending cannot recall information already processed. Account deletion is available from Settings → Account → Delete account, but local-note deletion and provider retention are separate. AI use is subject to usage limits — Pro does not mean unlimited model usage.
