Cogni field notes

Your second brain should feel like less work.

Build a way to return to ideas before you build an elaborate way to file them.

A second brain is a collection of notes and material that helps you think later. The value is not the number of notes or how impressive the graph looks. It is whether you can find an idea, understand why you kept it and use it.

Start with a question you really have

Instead of organizing your entire life, choose a live question: What might help this project? What did I learn from that book? Which notes belong to this decision? Save and connect material around that question.

Link for a reason

Two notes can share a word without being meaningfully related. When a suggested connection looks useful, open both originals. A short explanation of the connection is often more valuable than another tag.

Keep a path back to the source

Summaries are helpful, but sometimes you need the exact idea, context or link. Keep the original alongside any synthesis. When using AI, treat an answer as a starting point to check rather than a replacement for the source.

Let the structure stay small

A few active projects and broad neighborhoods are enough to begin. Add structure when something becomes hard to find, rather than because a template has a space waiting to be filled.
